비디오아트부산 부문
부산국제비디오아트페스티발은 올해부터 부산, 울산, 경남 지역에서 활동하는 영상예술 창작자의 신작 가운데 주목할 만한 형식과 내용을 갖추었거나 지역의 의제를 심도 있게 탐구하는 작품을 소개하는 ‘비디오아트부산’ 부문을 신설하였다.
지난 6월 9일부터 22일까지 진행된 공모에는 총 13편의 작품이 출품되었다. 영화와 시각예술의 경계에서 활동하는 창작자들의 작품이 다수를 차지했으며, 다큐멘터리·극영화·비디오 에세이·애니메이션 등 다양한 형식이 포함되었다.
비디오아트부산 부문의 상영작 선정에는 외부 심사위원 조율과 BIVAF 운영위원 강주영, 김효영, 서평주가 참여하였다. 지역의 인물과 공간, 잊혀지는 장소를 성실하게 기록한 다큐멘터리 작품들과, 지역 인구 소멸 등의 문제의식을 다룬 작품들도 눈에 띄었으나, 최종적으로는 작품이 전시장에 설치되었을 때 관객과 어떤 방식으로 상호작용할 수 있는지 그 가능성에 주목하였다.
심사위원 4인의 논의 끝에, 보이지 않음으로써 직조되는 또 하나의 세계를 이야기하는 이성욱의 〈물질형태〉와, 공장 노동의 경험에서 출발해 ‘강철 인간’이라는 불가능한 상상을 3D 애니메이션으로 구현한 전영현의 〈강철 인간 제조 공정〉이 최종 상영작으로 선정되었다.
Selection 2025 Jury's Statement
Video Art Busan
This year, the Busan International Video Art Festival (BIVAF) introduced a new section, “Video Art Busan,” showcasing the latest works by filmmakers active in the Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam regions, notable for their form or content, or their exploration of regional issues in depth.
The open call, held from June 9 to 22, received 13 submissions. Most came from filmmakers working at the intersection of cinema and visual art, with a diverse range of formats including documentary, narrative film, video essay, and animation.
Selection for the Video Art Busan section was carried out by a jury composed of an external juror Cho Yul and BIVAF steering committee members Kang Jooyoung, Kim Hyoyoung, and Seo Pyoungjoo. Notable submissions included documentaries that carefully documented local figures, spaces, and forgotten places, as well as works addressing issues such as regional population decline. Ultimately, the jury evaluated the works based on their potential to engage audiences when installed in the exhibition space.
Following deliberation by the four jurors, Lee Seongwook’s The Form of Matter, which envisions another world woven through the absence of sight, and Jeon Younghyun’s Steel Human Manufacturing Process, a 3D animation that transforms experiences of factory labor into the impossible figure of a “steel human,” were chosen as the final selections.
